One of the most influential and politically active American Poets -a pivotal figure of the Beat Generation known for his expressive stream of conscious delivery style and his explicit descriptions of sexuality and the human body. Outspoken against militarism, capitalism, censorship and nuclear weapons. He advocated for pacifism, gay rights, free speech and the peaceful coexistence of humans in all their diversity of views and opinions. He was a scholar and teacher inspiring generations of writers and poets via his uninhibited, uncompromising works in print that reached a global audience, translated into more than twenty-two languages. He co-founded and directed the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute in Colorado and became a distinguished professor at Brooklyn College.
